25k run Night marathon in Surat - Akshay Kumar flagged off !

Film star Akshay Kumar is its brand ambassador. He will flag off the event which seeks to raise funds for cancer patients and the city police's CCTV camera project.

Surat Marathon Company's director Denny Nirban said, "We have tied up with Khel Mahakumbh and so expect more people to join the event this year."

The event started as a half marathon but became a full marathon two years ago. Senior citizens, specially-abled children, and disabled people can take part in different categories of runs in the event, which has two sections:

• Half marathon (21 km)

• Full marathon (42 km)

There are also 5 km and 10 km runs to motivate a maximum number of participants.

All the runners will be provided with chips to measure their timings scientifically.

The event will start from VIP Road. Athletes will go to Chowpaty to complete the half marathon course.

They will return from the same route to complete the full marathon distance.

A number of cultural programs will be held for the entertainment of people.
